A visiting lecturer from the department of music education at Palacky University in the Czech Republic will present two therapy workshops this week at Owensboro Community & Technical College. Dr. Lenka Kruzikova works as a music therapist for children with mental disabilities and children in high social risk situations in Olomouc, Czech Republic. She creates programs for mothers and their babies in maternity centers and lectures in music and physical education, music therapy and other areas leading to the development of the child. AUSTIN — Musicians are set to perform Oct. 17 to benefit an organization that helps children with brain injuries. Brianna Dupuie, 8, is among the musicians who will take the stage in hopes of earning studio time like this. In reality she’s already won. “She’s a miracle. She’s just a miracle,” said mom Dena Dupuie. “Doctors tell us she was within minutes of dying when she arrived at the hospital and now look at her.” Read more here

Music therapy faculty, backed by a throng of supporters in the gallery, appeared before the Health Care Committee to support HB 2796 to create an Oregon state registry for music therapists in February 2015. The bill would establish a Board of Music Therapy within Health Licensing Office to license music therapists. Once enacted, only licensed individuals could practice music therapy in the State of Oregon. Read more here
