BBC Children in Need appeal gives £73,852 to Thomas’s Fund to support music therapy

A grant of £73,852 has been awarded to a Northamptonshire charity that provides music therapy for seriously ill children by BBC Children in Need. Thomas’s Fund was founded in 2007 following the death of Lucy Smith’s son, Thomas, in 2004 from a neuro-degenerative disease. Since then it has helped children and their families across the county. The band plays on at N.W. Hospital

Northern Westchester Hospital was forced to abandon its music therapy program about a year ago, due to a lack of funds. But thanks to a generous contribution from North Salem residents Paul Shaffer, who’s served as David Letterman’s musical director for nearly three decades, and his wife, Cathy, songs are now flowing once again throughout the Mount Kisco medical center.
