‘Alive Inside’ Celebrates The Healing Power Of Music

Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett had planned to film Dan Cohen, a social worker and founder of the nonprofit organization Music & Memory, for a single day. Cohen had wanted to document his nascent program for elders with dementia who were springing back to life at a Brooklyn nursing home. Rossato-Bennett found himself crafting a story of music and memory around Cohen’s objective to bring personalized music to every individual in nursing homes throughout America. Hospital music man hits healing note

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. Marvin Sherzer didn’t touch the piano keys for more than four decades. Today, the 67-year-old certified music practitioner provides soothing sounds to patients recovering at Florida Hospital Oceanside after taking a 46-year hiatus from the instrument. Free music therapy class to be held July 9

Children up to age five and their parents are invited to participate in a free music class at the United Methodist Church of Monroe on July 9. Connecticut Music Therapy Services, LLC will be offering a demonstration class from the award-winning early childhood music program, Sprouting Melodies. PORTSMOUTH — If you happen to be passing through the lobby or patient floors of Portsmouth Regional Hospital on a Wednesday, you may catch the strains of a harp being played by hospital volunteer Mary Paul. Paul, a Greenland resident, has been bringing her harp to the hospital for almost four years to soothe patients and their families and it also brightens the day of employees lucky enough to have her nearby.
