MASON CITY, Iowa – We celebrated the Grammy awards on KIMT Sunday night, so music is on everyone’s mind, but what if music could also be used as a tool for therapy. That’s exactly what happening at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mason City. The senior center has developed a program called Intergenerational Music Therapy, and the idea is to bring two generations together, young and old, for some simple interaction that not only lifts the spirits, but works the mind.

PostHeaderIcon Grant boosts music therapy at The Gardens

The Gardens at Qualicum Beach is receiving a $10,000 grant from Music Heals for its music therapy program. The grant will provide four additional hours of music therapy programming this year and the Gardens will be able to purchase equipment and instruments to enhance its program. The Gardens at Qualicum Beach has been offering music therapy to complex care residents as a treatment while also providing them with an outlet for creativity and emotional expression.
