Dr. Deforia Lane is the Associate Director of the Seidman Cancer Center and Director of Music Therapy at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Dr. Lane will be on campus at on Tuesday, October 20th, where she will be delivering a public lecture on music therapy and inter-professional health care in Baker Center Theater from 4- 5:00 pm. Her visit is sponsored by the OU School of Music, the Translational Biomedical Sciences program, the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact, and the Vice-President for Research and Creative Activity. DAVENPORT, Iowa.  Doctors and musicians got together in Davenport today, to raise money for music therapy. The Sixth Annual Genesis doctors in recital was held at First Presbyterian Church this afternoon. Doctors and musicians performed, singing and playing instruments. A Genesis music therapist says music is a crucial form of therapy for many patients in hospice. Read more here

AUSTIN — Musicians are set to perform Oct. 17 to benefit an organization that helps children with brain injuries. Brianna Dupuie, 8, is among the musicians who will take the stage in hopes of earning studio time like this. In reality she’s already won. “She’s a miracle. She’s just a miracle,” said mom Dena Dupuie. “Doctors tell us she was within minutes of dying when she arrived at the hospital and now look at her.” Read more here

Guitars hang on the walls in musician Chris Trigg’s Victoria home as he begins to play Hallelujah on his acoustic guitar. His daughter Bear begins to sing the lyrics. This is the first time she’s spoken in 22 years. “When this happened it was like ‘oh my god’,” said Trigg, founder and director of the Mighty Hughs Foundation, a charitable foundation providing therapeutic music programs to the special needs community in Greater Victoria. ONTARIO — Jonas Routtu is a quiet and reserved 16-year-old who has a love for music. He may not say a lot and prefers to keep to himself, but the Ontario teen has persevered over the last several months with a successful battle against Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Wednesday marked his last chemotherapy treatment at the Infusion Clinic at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario. Read more here
