Millburn music studio offers music therapy

Sometimes, Brooke Slemmer is the first to get a person to smile in months. The board-certified music therapist remembers one patient, a teenage girl, “wise beyond her years,” who was battling leukemia. Slemmer was with the patient for the entire journey, from her initial diagnosis to her third relapse, which Slemmer said left her in a vegetative state. Read more here…

Yes, this city has certainly earned a place on the cultural map, as Chris Daughtry noted during Sunday Night’s Rochester Music Hall of Fame induction and concert. “You guys created the Garbage Plate, which has made me happy on many occasions,” Daughtry told the crowd of about 1,800 at Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre.

MUSIC COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR A NIGHT OF HEALING AROUND TWO OF THEIR OWN

On a rainy night in Ballard, a group of family, friends, and fans came together to support and lift up two of Seattle’s brightest and beloved artists. Andrew Joslyn and Susy Sunborg, while on New Year’s holiday, came home to find that their apartment had caught fire. They lost nearly everything, including their beloved cat Mendelssohn. Being full-time musicians, the loss of instruments and gear, also meant lost revenue. Read more here…
Music therapy changes health care field

Gannon University students interested in health care and music were able to gain insight from someone who combines the two last Wednesday. Martha Summa Chadwick, DMA, gave a lecture called “Biomedical Music Techniques” using her experience in the field of music therapy. Music therapy is a relatively new approach to treating debilitating diseases like Alzheimer’s and autism that uses music to teach patients the skills needed to improve quality of life. By 2007, Clarence Clemons knew that the Magic tour might be his last with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Age was taking its toll on The Big Man.
