Caroline McNamara, of Westfield, a lifelong member of Girl Scout Troop 40808 and a senior at Wardlaw-Hartridge School, has earned her Gold Award. Caroline founded a music club, Snazzy Platters, at Wardlaw in the Upper School two years ago, with the purpose of using music to engage the elderly and to develop a rapport between teens and the elderly. She believes this synergy between generations is mutually beneficial. Read more here

The multi-source audio system, which has been installed in the residential unit at Camden Hospital, was donated by Rotary clubs in Macarthur and allows different styles of music to be played in separate rooms. Addicts and alcoholics in Fort Lauderdale now have the opportunity to improve their ability for recovery by learning how to effectively manage anxiety and stress and also how to improve their confidence and self-esteem. The sessions contrasted markedly with those held a few days earlier for a similar clientele at the Music Therapy Institute of the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains. Led by Lisa Sandagata, 52, who holds a degree in applied piano performance from Manhattanville College, a master’s in music therapy from New York University and a certification as a music therapist, those sessions were at once tamer and more structured.
