If music be the food of love, play on—the world’s greatest bard Shakespeare had  discovered the potency of melody on the senses as early as the 15th century. Even the half insane Nero, king of Rome, had played the harp while Rome was ‘burning’ to ‘soothe his fraught nerves’. The world at large has always resorted to music to calm the mind and relax taut or frayed nerves, so it is not surprising that it is being used as therapy, be it for pregnant women or autistic children. Erin Ebnet found her voice through music. Now she uses her talents to help others. The Sauk Rapids woman, who was raised in St. Joseph and is a 2001 Apollo High School graduate, is a music therapist. She was inspired to seek her profession after she broke her pelvis during an inline skating accident in college. Read more here

GUILDERLAND (AP) — A Guilderland man featured in an Associated Press account of veterans coping with trauma through songwriting has been found dead. Guilderland police Capt. Curtis Cox said Monday that 29-year-old former marine Adan Olid’s body was found Sunday. The cause of death is under investigation. Cox had no other information about the circumstances. A music therapy group has been given £3,000 to continue its work in Corby. Thomas’s Fund has been awarded the cash from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund to pay for a therapist for one day per week for the next four months in homes and at the Kingswood Children’s Centre’s Little Sparkles Group.
