The Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association will hold its annual conference, “Follow the Thunder to OKC,” March 26-28 at the Aloft Hotel. Barry Morrow, Academy Award-winning screenwriter, will provide the keynote address at the opening session at 7:30 p.m. March 26. Morrow is best known for his motion picture screenplay, “Rain Man.” Various media projects led Morrow to become an advocate for marginalized groups, and in 1991 he was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Social Workers.

A hospital music therapy program hit a high note Saturday, when Canadian country artist Gord Bamford made a donation to the tune of $10,000. “In the last couple years, we’ve gone right across the country to Childrens’ Hospitals and donated a substantial amount of money, and had a chance to try and make an impact on the kids,” said Bamford.

Recently, Juniper Village Wellspring Memory Care Community in Williamstown unveiled a program that utilizes music to aid residents who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of dementia.
