Music therapy classes welcome children with special needs

PADUCAH, Ky. — The two boys at Harmony Road Music School banged on the drums, shook rain sticks and rattles, and tried to pick out tunes on the piano. If it didn’t resemble a typical music lesson, that’s because it wasn’t. Instructor Madison Whelan’s musical games were meant to help the students develop skills that can be used outside of music, such as impulse control and communication. Read more here…
Letting patients be kids during music therapy

Every morning at 11:30 they come for a chance to sing along and play a song — maybe bang a bongo or two. At the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, the patients have few moments to enjoy being a kid while they are being poked and prodded as they deal with health issues that are tough even for grownups. Acadiana comes together to unite, honor, heal

The community showed their support through prayer and song at the Lafayette Strong: Unite. Honor. Heal. event held at the Blackham Coliseum. With hands raised and hearts opened, the community honored those involved in the Grand Theatre shooting. The Lafayette Consolidated Government put the event together in just two days. Music therapy ‘valuable’ for dementia

A BRITISH study which saw dementia patients undergo music therapy resulted in improvements to their symptoms and wellbeing as well as a reduction in disruptiveness to staff at their care home. MUSIC therapy has long been known to help people with conditions such as dementia, as music appears to be able reach parts of the damaged brain in ways other forms of communication cannot. Healing Sounds to heal all

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Light background music fills the lobby of Northside Hospital-Forsyth. But this isn’t a radio or soundtrack playing. EDMONTON — Jeremiah Manitopyes, whose native name is Old Man Eagle, is known to most as Drezus, his hip hop moniker. The 32-year-old has been following his musical passion for over 10 years. Now, he has been nominated for four Indigenous Music Awards. Read more here…
Healing through music, prayers: ‘Lafayette Strong’ event scheduled Thursday; city-wide prayers Wednesday
Community leaders are pulling together what’s being called a “gathering for healing” Thursday in the wake of last week’s theater shootings. The specifics were still being worked out late Tuesday, but the event — “Lafayette Strong: United. Honor. Heal” — is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Blackham Coliseum on Johnston Street. Hospital children’s music therapy program: Youngsters at Westmead love everything from AC/DC to The Wiggles

The music therapy program at The Children’s Hospital in Westmead gets all sorts of requests for a tune and is yet to knock one back. It’s a policy that often fills the wards with music of all sorts, from traditional nursery rhymes to good old-fashioned hard rock.
