Cook assisted living site offers “music therapy”

Carefee Living, a Spectrum Health Company assisted living facility in Cook, has been certified as a Music & Memory facility. It is the company’s first such designation in Minnesota. A resident of the Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, Dalphne Sommario travels more than 200 miles every week to work with the young women at Maryville’s suburban Bartlett Campus. “Depending on traffic and weather conditions, the trip can range from 1 hour to 2 ½ hours each way,” Dalphne said. “If I take a train from Union Station, that’s an hour-long ride each way.” What inspires a city girl to journey to the far-flung suburbs twice a week?. Here at PLF we see a lot of crazy government regulations. New Jersey is home to the latest sighting. Today, the New Jersey Assembly is considering creating an occupational license for music therapists. If you’ll recall, I recently blogged about the efforts of music therapist organizations to push for licensure. After succeeding in getting licenses implemented in four states, they have recently turned their focus to eight more states. New Jersey is the first one up in this wave. Read more here…
